Welcome to Boom! |
What I say:
With a new wave of intense spinning of classes emerging around the city (Psycle, Edge, Fly Wheel), Boom follows very similar principles - more like a night club than a fitness studio, Boom is set up with flashing lights, a superior sound system and, oh, 30 or so bikes packed into a dark basement room.
The studio |
Very different to the standard spin class, straight away we were up and out of the seat - backwards, forwards, sideways - cycling along to what I can only describe as the best playlist I have ever exercised to. A mix of 80's chart toppers, my 90's favorites, and current 2015 hits - this literally was like clubbing on a bike! We even had some crazy dance moves thrown in to brighten up our workout.... Bodypopping on a bike? Who knew it was even possible?! And, just incase you need some upbeat and high energy tracks to lift your morning, you can even access each instructors playlist via Spotify here.
State of the art Schwinn bikes - comfiest I've ever sat on! |
Intensity: 9/10
Suitable for anyone fom beginners right up to athelete pro's, you can easily adjust your resistance to increase the intensity for as much of a endorphin releasing workout as you wish! I actually attended this class back when I was being recommended to do low impact spinning to help my leg injury (i.e. when my stress fracture was still diagnosed as a 'pulled IT band'), therefore I could easily take it at a pace and resistance that felt comfortable. Equally, the aim of the game is just to keep your legs moving, and with the highly motivating music pumping, it's almost difficult NOT to want an extreme workout!

Instructor: 10/10
Guaranteed to make you sweat buckets (now I know why they provide you with a fresh towel on your bike!), my Saturday morning instructor, Chloe, was fab. Her favourite catch phrase, "it hurts now, but it won't hurt forever!", definitely got me through the tougher tracks.
Amenities 10/10
Ah, my favourite part - REN toiletries, a GHD styling bar, and a corridor full of individual shower rooms, each containing fresh fluffy towels, Boom Cycle didn't fall short!
Long corridor of showers |
Admittedly the most flattering photo - they were a lot more luxurious! |
The best part? The jar of hair bobbles on the reception desk as you enter! Such a simple thing but, as any long-haired female would understand, a life-saver for when you forget your own!
LIFE-SAVER |
Value for money: 7/10
The cost for one ride is £16 which, although seems expensive, is £4 cheaper than it's leading competitor Psycle. Additionally, Boom operate a token system, meaning the more tokens you buy the cheaper your rides become. Or, if you become a Boom addict (it's easily done!), you can even buy a months unlimited pass for £95. With at least six classes a day, split across two locations, you could certainly earn your moneys worth.
Alternatively, sign up to SoMuchMore, where you can experience a range of specialist classes at different studios all over London (from yoga, to spinning, to ariel - even tango and salsa!). Visit www.somuchmore.co.uk and you can sign up for a free 7 day trial. What have you got to lose?!
Would I go back to Boom?
As soon as my stress fracture has healed, most definitely! As Chloe says, the feel-good factors come after class: the sense of achievement, the sweat and smiles...not to mention the BOOM Cycle Recovery Shakes. BOOM!
I went for the Vanilla Nut - didn't disappoint! |
Bike adventure has always been a dream for me. However, my parents would never allow me to do so. The best part about bike adventure is we get to learn so much when we are on the road, travelling.
