Where to eat in London.... Cafe Mish, Mayfair!

In London's creative thriving food scene, to open up a simple sandwich shop - particularly in Mayfair, the heart of michelin star restaurants and fine dining-  is a brave move! Hence, when I heard about the new gourmet sandwich shop Cafe Mish, which opened in W1 last week, I had to try it out.

And unsurprisingly, Cafe Mish is nothing like your typical sandwich shop. Their mouthwatering offering of gourmet sandwiches definitely impressed!

Best Part:

Has to be the fantastic menu - which offers everything from traditional favourites (e.g. salt beef and mustard), to more adventurous combinations (such as the creamy burratta on toasted foccacia), to weekly specials (this week - ham hock). All their sandwiches come served on artisan bread, baked freshly each day by award winning North London bakery, The Bread Factory. Furthermore, with seasonal and locally sourced produce being at the heart of their concept, you can be rest assured you're getting the freshest and finest fillings possible!

Everything freshly made to order

Although not a huge beef eater, I went for their speciality Salt Beef, sourced from the famous Hensons at Londons Spitalfields market. A slow braised salted beef, sweet pickle gherkins and dijonnaise on a Caraway bread, I was very happy with my choice!

Joe went for the Roast Angus - peppered roast of rib beef, with homemade horseradish and wild rocket.

Given it was the weekend, we both went for a side of Mish Chips - sweet potato and connoisseurs hand cup chips with spiced Halen Mon Salt. Delicious!

Worst Part:

With only six seats, and a fan-list now comprising of most of Mayfair, you would probably need to arrive early if you wanted to enjoy the sit in experience. However, they packaged up our sandwiches perfectly so we could take-away, and they also offer a delivery service....perfect for when you can't make it out the office in your lunch break!

Best for:

As I say, Cafe Mish is great for an easy working lunch, but with Hyde Park just around the corner, I don't know why you'd chose to go back to the office! Best to visit at the weekend, then you can wander down to the park, sit in the sunshine and take your time to munch away guilt free.

Price:

Sandwiches range from £6.75 to £12.75 so, although it's quite a bit more expensive than it would cost you to throw together a sandwich at home, I can guarantee you it's worth it! I don't know about you, but my homemade sliced ham and tomato sandwiches don't quite live up to this gourmet standard.... and the likelihood of me taking the time to slow roast a fillet of beef for one lunch? Slim to none.

Would I go back?

Definately! With a different special offer on every week, as the waiter informed me, "every sandwich is a different experience". So quite rightly I need to experience them all :P

Sun, sandwiches and salt beef. It's the simple things!
